History in the Making

Christmas Pajamas and Traditions, Style File Friday

If I’ve ever written a Style File Friday PSA, this would have to be it- yes, Halloween just passed but when it comes to buying holiday and Christmas specific items, you need to get started earlier rather than later. Christmas pajamas are one of my favourite things in the world, and if you plan ahead, you can quickly grab them now and then put them ahead for when your holiday season actually starts. Also, they are probably the most fun item of clothing you get to buy!

Christmas Pajama Traditions

Christmas pajamas are the absolute best. They are comfortable beyond belief, they keep you warm when it’s cold, and they are so adorable. (If you don’t like pajamas, we probably can’t be friends…) Pajamas are the one item of clothing that are meant solely for you and you don’t have to think about anyone else’s opinion, ever. While I do believe that you should take pride in your appearance, pajamas are all about comfort and fun!

I am not going to lie, I wear my holiday pajamas from fall to spring but I know that a lot of people have the tradition of wearing new Christmas pajamas on 1 December or on Christmas Eve. Just like ugly Christmas sweaters, Christmas pajamas are becoming more and more popular, which makes them more difficult to find and more expensive to find closer to Christmas.

Where to Buy Your Christmas Pajamas

Depending on where you live, there are probably more than a few places to buy your Christmas pajamas for the holiday season! In North America, I would probably look at Old Navy- they are fairly affordable to begin with and they having coupons for 20-40% off on a near daily basis. My only recommendation for Old Navy is to buy them now- the Old Navy’s in my city are pretty picked over Christmas-pajama-wise by the second week of November and they don’t seem to restock.

If you live in the UK/Ireland/Europe, I would look at Primark/ Penney’s and Marks and Spencer! Slightly different price points, but both have fun and affordable Christmas pajamas. I fell in love with M&S when I lived in Ireland, and they actually have excellent world-wide shipping. Primark is going to be the very cheap end of the spectrum but they will probably have the most options!

Christmas Pajama Traditions

As I said earlier, a lot of people have their own traditions with their Christmas pajamas! I personally wear my new pair on November 12th (after Remembrance Day) to truly kick off my own season. (It’s long, okay?) What are your Christmas pajama traditions? Do you wear the same pair each year? Do you get a new pair for Christmas Eve? Have a pajama swap with your family? Wear them for Christmas movie night? Let me know in the comments what you do! (You might be featured in a Blogmas post coming soon)

What kind of Christmas pajamas do you like to buy? And what are your own Christmas pajama traditions?

  • I LOVE Christmas Pyjamas 🙂 Actually in fact I think most of my pyjama bottoms are Christmassy but I wear them year round! M&S is definitely a good place for Christmas PJs, they actually have loads of great ones this year 🙂

    • I have literally just seen 3 “NO CHRISTMAS UNTIL DECEMBER YOU MORONS” posts, so this makes me incredibly happy to see that it isn’t just me who gets a little smile from wearing my Christmas jammies all year round!!

    • I’ve noticed they have gotten a lot more popular in the last few years! When I was living in Dublin, it was pretty tough to find them!

  • I got so excited when I saw this post announcement in my inbox, haha. I love Christmas pajamas!! I tend to go for a traditional red plaid on the bottom with a plain long-sleeved t-shirt in a complementing color, and my husband usually does the same, though her prefers a green plaid. We like to buy our pjs from Target because of the price (very reasonable!), but, as you said, we have to buy EARLY because they will be gone by mid-November, lol. If I see something I like, I usually snag it then and there…even if it’s only September!

I have to admit, we wear our “Christmas” pj bottoms all year round because they are so dang comfy. And, you can get away with plaid year-round, really. But they feel extra special during the Christmas season. 🙂

    • This makes me so incredibly happy!!! I will admit to wearing plaid PJs all year round, so I tend to branch out to the “fun” jammies but I may be back for the plaid ones if I can catch a good sale!!
I also have to say if people are present when you are wearing your pajamas and are making fun of you, you don’t need them in your life 😐 Me and my Christmas puppies and penguins in sweaters will have a grand ol’ time on our own!!
