While I am definitely a “reader” over a “watcher” (one is not better than the other!), movies are a key part of modern Christmas celebrations for almost all of us. The movie(s) that we prefer to watch vary widely from person to person and family to family, but we all have at least one family favourite that we return to. This book immediately caught my eye, as I love learning those quirky little facts about my favourite movies and doubly so for holiday favourites. Why You Should Read This…
This book was published by Turner Classic Movies, meaning that it is an excellent quality book. (If you are a movie buff, I would absolutely recommend checking out their books!) This is a lightning bolt through thirty five memorable holiday films with roughly three to five pages per film. (If you get the original edition, it has thirty films.) I love this book because it has a lot of fantastic photographs for each film, there is actually quite a bit of information that is brand-new to me, and it is easy to read about a film or two if you don’t have a lot of time to sit down and read.
This book does skew towards older films (I would say 1960s and earlier), which makes sense given that TCM produced it. My parents enjoy a lot of older films so I have seen some but many were entirely new to me. That did not make this book any less enjoyable, though! I’ve found myself picking this up several times already.
