I’m a bizarrely intense reader. I’ll read fiction, mysteries, history, fantasy, biographies, cozies, humour, you name it. A lot of people criticise and mock chick lit as a genre for being fluffy and flip. However, sometimes I want to read a book to escape from stress and work and don’t want to have to do mental gymnastics to make my way through a book. Summer is definitely a reading season for me! I love sitting outside or in the three season room for a few hours, especially with a fun piece of chick lit that helps me “get away”. These are my top recommendations for chick lit this summer!
I have continued on in my frenzied reading since my last post! It’s beautiful out, and sitting with a nice candle, a good cup of tea, and a fantastic book has been a wonderful way to relax. I’m still really enjoying listening to audiobooks, though I may slowly be exhausting the books that I am interested in that are actually available through the library. When you have a good story and a solid narrator, it makes the world of difference!
I have really been utilising all of the reading avenues available to me! Ihave been borrowing from the library like mad, I have been borrowing audiobooks and ebooks on the Overdrive and Hoopla apps (through the library), and making my way through books I’ve purchased myself. At the time of writing, I am in Banff!! So, you might notice that I am partway through my reading list for this weekend. Continue reading
For anyone brand new to my blog today, I’m heading to Banff for the May Long Weekend! My Favourite Places travel series will resume next Thursday! We have 13 hours of driving each way, and I will mostly be reading and relaxing while I am there with Loki! If it rains, as is to be expected, I don’t plan on wandering about to be soaked for no reason. So, I headed to the library and stocked up for the trip! Continue reading
I am quite glad that I only set my goodreads goal to 52 books this year. It has allowed me to read at a slower pace; if I am not sure what I want to read, I can take a day or two to decide. If I don’t feel like reading because I want to blog or do yoga or watch a movie, I don’t feel guilty! As such, I only have three books to post about today, and I enjoyed taking my time with each one of them. Continue reading
I have been reading quite a bit lately, mostly chick lit and cozies. I’m not sure why, but they really seem to help when it’s cold and dark and we are stuck in the dead of winter! So, what have I been reading?
Ahhhh, a brand new year of reading. I made it to exactly 100 books for 2015; I am proud of myself for that! However, until I am retired I will be sticking with a smaller goal, to give me more time to read longer books and really ruminate on things. I’m pretty excited about my 52 book goal on Goodreads! I have a few people on my friends list who set and achieve goals of 200+ books in a year, and I wish I could be that dedicated. Reading that many books won’t allow me to paint or do puzzles or even just watch tv without feeling guilty that I’m not reading. This is the year of fun and enjoyable reading for me! So, what was the last book I read of 2015? Continue reading
As I’ve mentioned in recent posts, I was lucky enough to take the “History of Christmas” in my undergraduate coursework. As such, I was given a license to read all of the Christmas literature I could get my hands on! (Quite a bit, as it turns out 🙂 ) I have some recommendations if you are looking for some festive reads! Half of this post will look at non-fiction works, and half at fiction. On we go! Continue reading
I am determined to make it to 100 books this year, and I’ve got 10 books to go. I have a few novellas that I’ve been waiting to read, I’m specifically making time to read, and I can do this! I have two books that will probably take me until the end of the year, but other than that, I am moving along!
As usual, I am reading as much as possible. I still find it relaxing, and I love getting lost in another world for a few minutes or hours.
