Women’s History Month is here, dear readers! If you did not know, I am Canadian. And here in Canada, we observe Women’s History Month in October. Because I have so many readers from around the world, I celebrate it in both March and October, because we still have a long way to go. Books written about women and about women (and topics considered “female”) are still lagging in publishing, women’s history is being removed from curricula, museums, and historical sites in many countries, and quite frankly, women still do not have equality with men in many places. So, onto 2025 Women’s History Month and what you can expect in October!
2025 Women’s History Month
Much of my site focuses on women’s history, so Women’s History Month will not be a massive change from what you can already find here. However, I do my utmost for WHM to highlight women’s history whenever possible. Women make up half of the world’s population but still our history is deemed trivial- it’s time to change that!
Women’s History Month- Book Recommendations
As you would expect, for the duration of Women’s History Month, I will be highlighting books written by women. (I will also largely be focusing on books that explore women’s stories.) That is not to say that there are not wonderful books written by men, but women are still a smaller proportion of published books in both history and biography and I will do whatever I can to help sway that.
I will be recommending both fiction and non-fiction books this month (as always), so hopefully there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Women’s History Month- Lesser Known Women
Throughout October, I will also be sharing different women from history that you may or may not be familiar with. The Consort of the Month series will be continuing as always, as we explore the lives of royal consorts who are largely ignored and dismissed. However, I will also be highlighting the lives and legacies of other women, including some connected to recent period dramas (hint, hint- maybe you can guess…)
I will also be sharing posts I’ve written in the past on social media, if you have missed any of them!
Women’s History Creators
Throughout the month on social media, I will also be sharing creators who work in and share women’s history. There are so many wonderful creators working in this area who deserve attention, and if you enjoy An Historian About Town, you will definitely enjoy their content, as well!
