I think I speak for everyone when I say that 2023 was a difficult year in many, many ways. I kept thinking “as long as it doesn’t get worse, it will be okay”… and then it got worse. However, I suppose that does build resiliency. In any case, I did want to share some of my own 2023 highlights as a way to end the year on a positive note!
Twice Concert
This has nothing to do with history, but I saw my favourite group in concert in July. Twice had two shows in Toronto, and I was finally able to see them live. (I’ve got to say, the K-Pop industry as a whole knows how to put on an entertaining show, and Twice are the best of the best.) I’m not a huge concert-goer, so it made it even more of a highlight for me!
New Place
Agnes and I moved into a new place- yes, Agnes is a city pup once again! We have settled in nicely and have our returns down for the most part. It is a lot of tea and reading, as I am sure that anyone might have guessed. I do have to say, though- even though I’ve moved multiple times, it never seems to get easier. No matter how much I prepare and organise, it is still chaos! (At least I have a fantastic bookcase, though.)
Witnessing the Coronation
As an historian who studies the history of modern monarchy, I am incredibly glad that I was able to watch the coronation. While getting up at 2am does not seem like a great prospect to most of us, I was quite happy to do so. Not only did I enjoy all of the coverage I had on the blog (and for Royal Central), it is actually already factoring into my research. (More on that in the near future!)
I hope that you have had your own 2023 highlights, and that 2024 will be a wonderful year for you!
