The Wisdom of Winnie the Pooh

As First Night Design reminded me earlier this week, Winnie the Pooh is one of the greatest sources of wisdom and advice that has ever existed in the history of the Universe. I firmly believe that no matter what the situation is, Pooh will have the words that you need to hear. He will probably also have honey, but that may or may not be of use to you. Why do I love Winnie the Pooh so much? Because the wisdom of Winnie the Pooh is here for all of us!
Because Winnie the Pooh is named after my beloved hometown, Winnipeg. A mid-sized city in the middle of Canada that endures incredibly hot summers and freezing cold winters, we aren’t often mentioned on the world stage. (Well, apparently Vogue gave us a shout-out, but that’s recent [as of the last week].) A soldier from Winnipeg had a pet black bear (from White River, ON) that he named Winnie after his hometown; the bear eventually ended up in the London Zoo. A.A. Milne’s son named his teddy bear after Winnie, and the rest is history. There is a statue of the soldier and his bear in the London Zoo- the original statue is in the Assiniboine Park Zoo here in Winnipeg! That’s right, Winnipeg has the original and London has the copy. (I don’t believe that that has ever been said about anything else…) The wisdom of Winnie the Pooh is applicable to all of us, no matter what age, gender, or race we are, and no matter what the situation is, it is always applicable.
