Find Me on Flipboard!

Hi everyone! For anyone following my blogging updates, you will know that I’ve been spending the last few months tackling and investing some time in Pinterest. I’m feeling like I have more of a handle on it, and a bit more focus! My attention is now on Flipboard- I have to say, even if I wasn’t blogging, I would keep Flipboard. There are quite a few magazines that I follow, including several history and style. I’m enjoying being able to save/share those “official” posts with anything else I want. (I share a lot of my favourite posts from other bloggers there!), without being crammed full of just pictures.

So, if you have a moment, come and find me on Flipboard! I’m always looking to connect with my readers, and there is something for everyone 🙂

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

Do bloggers need to do everything? Blogging Update

I try not to blog too often about blogging, as it is for an incredibly small audience, and I don’t think that I am an authority on what you should or should not be doing on a blog. However, sometimes a question strikes me and if it sticks for long enough, I will share it here to hopefully open up a discussion. Lately, I’ve been thinking about the proliferation of bloggers that have a store on their blog, and a course, and an e-book, and a YouTube channel, and services, and this, and that, and and and- is this becoming the norm for bloggers? And are we expected as bloggers to have all of these things?

Thoughts on My Blog

With the year slowly winding down (or up?), I’ve been spending more time thinking on my blog- where it’s currently at, where I’ve come from, and where I want it to go. I firmly believe that blogs are living things that grow and change with us (or away from us), and it’s a good exercise for any blogger to take stock of what they are creating and publishing.

The Pinterest Question

Pinterest is a hot topic in the blogging world. I think it’s calmed down in the actual world, but it still consumes hours upon hours of bloggers’ lives and it’s very much considered an integral part of blogging for many people. Each form of social media is a living and breathing animal that behaves however it’s creators want (which is completely unbeknownst to the rest of us). In my quest to educate myself, I’ve tried to find as much information as I could about Pinterest, and after much thought, these are the conclusions that I arrived at!

4 Blogging Regrets

Blogging is a bizarre hobby when you think about it. There is a huge divide between people who touch their blog once a month, and people who check it countless times throughout the day. Many of us hold ourselves to these weirdly high standards (that only apply to the most successful of bloggers that have monthly traffic of millions) for some reason, when we could just be enjoying it for what it is! Today is all about introspection-  I’m sharing my blogging regrets, and how I’m feeling about my blog now.

How to Run Social Media for Your Blog

I am by no means an expert in social media or running a blog, but I have learned quite a bit in the almost three years that I’ve had my blog. There are countless courses in how to boost your traffic with Pinterest, create the perfect Instagram story, and increase your mail list by offering something for free. However, most of these are not free and those that are usually land you on a mailing list that you can’t unsubscribe from no matter how hard you try. Today I’m sharing my social media tips that have worked for me – I’m no expert but in the past year and a half I’ve spent a lot of time trying out different things,

The Real Neat Blog Award

So, I was nominated for the Real Neat Blog Award by one of my favourite new blogs, The Loyal Brit Wit. I discovered it in the WordPress Community Pool about a month back, and I love her daily posts that give a glimpse into what a particular British slang word might look like when fleshed out into a story. I’m not going to lie, I’ve been caught laughing to myself after reading this by numerous people- totally worth it! My favourite recent posts? Programme and Whinge! So, shall we get on with this?

What I’ve Learned From Blogging Groups

Blogging groups- some bloggers swear by them, some have never been in one before. They can five people or five thousand people, could be organised around a theme, a goal, or even an area. Some are easily found and some are harder to find than Fight Club. No matter what kind of blogging group it is, I’ve found that the way to approach them doesn’t change. These are five biggest things that I’ve learned from the blogging groups that I’ve been in, and I hope that it helps you, too!
