Life Tip No. 7- Who to Contact

Although none of us want to end up in difficult or hard situations, that is all a part of life. Cars die, people slip and fall, credit cards are stolen, and countless other “oh no’s” happen on a daily basis. While nothing makes these situations truly enjoyable by any means, a little bit of forethought can go a long way to managing the stress and panic that accompanies them. Keeping all needed information handy on a moment’s notice can make a difficult situation as smooth as possible, and a “who to contact” list is easy can save you a lot of stress later on!

When you have been in a car accident or it has died on the side of the road and you are panicking because it is 8:30 on a Sunday night in the middle of winter and someone might not be along for hours, it can be incredibly difficult to flip through a car manual (due to both panic and cold fingers, as I’ve learned…). And when you go to use your debit card and it has been frozen for suspicious activity, a lot of us jump to “they’ve stolen every penny I have!” on the spot. Make yourself a list of all of the pertinent “who to contact” info you would need in an emergency. Include info for both your car and car insurance, your regular doctor(s) and health insurance, banking contact info, and anything that may come up in an emergency.

Make a picture for the background of your lock screen on your phone with the number of your In Case of Emergency/ who to contact contact. Don’t include anything else, but this way if someone finds you unconscious or you are in an accident, there is someone that they can contact without getting into your phone. Ideally that person will know your major allergies/medical issues, as that is typically what they need to know when you are unconscious. These may seem like small or superfluous things to do but can make a big difference when they are truly needed.

Do you have somewhere you store your “who to contact” info?

  • Most phones should have an emergency call feature from the lock screen. U can set contacts to be emergency ones that appear there. Dont need to unlock it to call the #.

    • I know that a few of my friends’ phones still don’t have the feature where you can set a number (so you would have to know the number to call) but this is a great tip!

    • Some do but it doesn’t seem universal quite yet! Most phones let you dial for emergency calls but then you have to know what number to call ?
