I think I speak for most of us when I say that friends are wonderful things to have! Sometimes we take them for granted, but they are there for us when we need it, provide endless hours of entertainment and amusement, and are the people who tell us when we are being entirely ridiculous. Today’s post is all about the best ways to pass time with your friends and still try new things- many of us resort to the same old coffee date and/or movie night out when we could be far more creative and active with what we are doing!
1. Go for a walk
This is fairly self-explanatory, but often overlooked! Grab some comfy shoes, some sunscreen, and hit the pavement! It’s a great way to get some daily steps in, and it’s an even better way to catch up with your friends. If you are so inclined, you could use an app like the Walk (or Zombies, Run!) to add a bit more oomph to your wanderings!
Here is your chance to try out any new recipes, or even resurrect an old favourite- bonus points if everyone makes it together! This is the perfect way to spend four or five hours together, maybe learn a new recipe, and keep busy instead of sitting for the entire time. Perhaps Funfetti Sugar Cookies or Strawberry Ice-Box Cake??
3. Visit a Local Gallery or Museum
Take a wander through your local art gallery- you could discover a new local artist or a new period in the past, see some infamous works on exhibition in your city, and stretch your mind a little bit! It can be tough to break away from the call of Netflix and Instagram, but spending a few hours with your best friend while becoming slightly more cultured is not the worst way to spend an evening… Something like the British Museum?
4. Do Some Yard Work
We all typically have some sort of landscaping that needs to be done- be it raking, weed pulling, planting, or shovelling, and these all become infinitely more enjoyable when you have someone to pass the time with! While it’s fantastic to spend time with our friends, it is nice to accomplish something at the same time.
5. Volunteer Together
On the theme of accomplishing things, volunteering is a fantastic way to give back to your community while spending time with your friends. If one person can give back to an organisation, imagine what two, three, or four of you could do if you all came together for an organisation. Many places like animal shelters, soup kitchens, and food pantries allow people to volunteer in groups and even encourage it! And if the weather is nice, get together a large group and clean up your community…
6. Puzzle It Out
Although I only recently posted about my love of puzzles (I’m a dork and I’m not ashamed to admit it), doing a puzzle with a friend is a lovely way to spend a cozy evening. I find puzzles to be quite addictive- once I start, I find it difficult to stop. (Many of the Washington State Ferries have a puzzle or two going on each ferry, and I can never take part because 10 minutes isn’t enough time…) If the weather is terrible or it’s late at night, a puzzle can be the perfect activity that allows you to chat and meander through any topic you want.
What is your favourite way to spend time with your friends?
