Seattle Mariners Game, Travel Thursday

My family (like a lot of Canadian families) are huge hockey fans. We watch the season from the draft to the last playoff game, and sprinkle in the World Junior’s, Olympics, and World Championships. M’s family are just into baseball, and while they are Yankees fans, now that they live in Seattle are also cheering for the Mariners. The Mariners might not be the best team in the league but they are always fun to watch and it’s a fun ballpark to spend the evening in. I have to say, this was the most exciting baseball game that I’ve ever been to!

It was bobblehead night! I’ve really got to say, the MLB is fantastic with game promotions- fireworks, bobbleheads, Bark in the Park, giveaways, pretty much everything you can think of. We didn’t have to wait too long for the doors to open but I did have enough time to have to see this unflattering banner of Robinson Canó. (If he’s making $30 million dollars a season and is actually in shape, you probably shouldn’t put up a picture that gives him a serious beer gut…)

I had heard the name Ken Griffey Jr, but now I can say I’ve seen his statue! He played the majority of his career with the Mariners, and was an all-star, MVP batter who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last year. (They just need an Ichiro statue now!!)

I shared this on my Instagram, because I couldn’t wait quite frankly- this $8 USD ice cream sandwich was quite possibly the best dessert that I’ve had in all of my memories of life. Three kinds of cookies and a brownie, three flavours of locally made ice cream, and eight toppings to choose from? Why yes, I will enjoy a gourmet handmade ice cream sandwich, thankyouverymuch. Frozen Rope Sandwich Company, you are a treasure and should open up more stores!

I love being able to catch the field/rink/court before it gets loud and busy- other than the fans catching batting practice, it was pretty much empty!

The Mariners might not be a dynasty of a team, but neither is Tampa Bay. I was excited when I saw that we would be playing the Rays, M said that we would have a good chance of winning!

Alex Cobb was pitching for the Rays, apparently he is a decent pitcher. Wellllllll, not in this game- giving up 5 runs in an inning doesn’t seem the mark of a good pitcher….

I’m wondering if he was terrible because of the bizarre angle of his leg when he releases the ball. I’m not a sports medicine doctor, but that looks tough on the knee!

Mike Zunino, catcher for the Mariners, had a career best game. Not only did he have 5 RBI and 3 hits, he hit his first grand slam! (For those of you like me who don’t know what a grand slam is, it’s when you hit a home run when there is a runner on each base and all four players get a run.) I’ve never seen so much energy at a baseball game, it was a lot of fun to experience it in person!

Seattle Mariners game 4

The famous #boomstickBobblehead, Nelson Cruz! He also had a great night- M’s brother has a theory that you always play well on your bobble head night, and I think that there is truth to it. Tiny Nelson had a good time wandering around, and Tall Nelson had a good time winning!

All of your pics are fabulous, but that cookie/brownie ice cream sandwich, though 😍. Pure perfection!
