Planning For Galentine’s Day!

Galentine’s Day, a creation of Leslie Knopes, is a day to celebrate your friendships and enjoy your time with your girlfriends. While I do think that the world has far too many “holidays” that aren’t actually holidays, I love that we finally are coming around to a day to celebrate with your friends! I don’t think that you need to pull a Lesli and cross stitch a pillow of newspaper headlines for your friends, but I think that between now and February 13, you can make some plans for you and your girlfriends for a worthwhile evening!

1. Gifts

I don’t think that it requires a huge expensive gift, but I would recommend DIY gifts or a thoughtful card! A nice letter of your favourite memories together  or what you admire in her is free in the sense of money but priceless in meaning- you can get cute and fun note cards at Michaels in the two for three dollar bins. I personally love these colour in cards; you can either colour in some or all of them, or leave them for the recipient to colour!

Two of my DIY projects from the holiday season would be perfect for Galentine’s Day- these Watercolour Quotes are perfect for anyone looking for inspiration, and this Salted Cream Scrub is perfect for pampering!

2. Snacks

This is the perfect time to spend half an hour making some snacks together- there are recipes to match any ability level, and even if it doesn’t turn out, you both were part of the disaster! I would recommend picking a snack in honour of each person. This is not the night to skimp on food or limit it to kale and broccoli- embrace the night and go for the junk food! I would recommend these M&M Chunky Cookie Bars or Pull-Apart Garlic Rolls as a start. Also, you might want to hit up a Bulk Barn for some candy and chocolate. (If you stay away from Valentine’s shapes, you can save a lot of money!)

3. Movies

I recommend movies for your Galentine’s Day adventures- movies are great to have on for comedy and entertainment, but you can also turn down the volume if you want to chat and/or plan a cross country road trip… My Galentine’s Day movie recommendations include SistersLegally Blonde, and Mean Girls. Romance takes the main stage for close to 90% of the rest of year- embrace the theme of friendship! Also, reciting lines along with the movie is perfectly acceptable, and quite frankly, encouraged.

Make this a night where friendship is the priority- leave Instagram alone, let Snapchat stay quiet, and turn your phone off! Remember why these women are your friends and that a few uninterrupted hours aren’t going to kill anyone. Life gets hectic and busy, take Leslie’s advice, and show your girlfriends just why they are your friends. A goofy and relaxed night with friends can do wonders for your mood and mental health!

Do you have any Galentine’s Day plans?

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

Galentine’s day is good and all but it’s no Festivus. 😛

Ah, I have a few friends that really dig in for Festivus! I’ve never been a Seinfeld fan, so it always flies past me!

I love this concept! Friendship is so important. I celebrate with my best friend but it’s always like a Galentine’s Day/Birthday party for her since her birthday is so close to that time. We’re celebrating a week later though, on the 23rd, since that’s the only day we both have free in the next few weeks and we’re going to go shopping, have a lovely lunch, and then go for cocktails 🙂

Oh, that’s perfect!! I never say no to a shopping day out 😀 Although I wouldn’t say no to two shopping days out, either…

OK I legit feel like I dork that I didn’t know Galentine’s Day had its own day until I read your post just now. I always heard people say the term and thought it just referred to a way to spend Valentine’s day with friends if you’re single. Derp.

Anyway, I love these ideas!!! Those cards are presh, and those garlic knots look amazing!

Gotta love some Leslie Knopes!! I’ve never celebrated Galentine’s Day, but as a die-hard Parks & Rec fan, and lover-of-some-great-friends, I really ought to!!
