Style File Friday, 20 January 2017

Style Saturday is being reborn as Style File Friday! It will stay the same, either featuring two to three items that I recommend or an outfit of the day, but will now live on Fridays instead of Saturdays. It is one of my favourite topics to discuss and write about, and I’m happy for it to evolve and move along with the rest of the blog! I am continuing on with my deals from my trip to Seattle, as I was really able to add some fantastic pieces to my wardrobe. Today is all about my Banana Republic deals!

The Banana Republic outlet at Tulalip was 50% off of all clearance items, so I took my time looking through everything! I fall smack dab in the Banana Republic demographic (25-35), and I love that there are professional clothes out there that are still young and exciting. Unfortunately, it is on the more expensive end of high street companies, so I take advantage of any sales possible!

Plaid Academy Blazer, Banana Republic Outlet

I have been on the hunt for a plaid blazer for a good four years now. Whenever I find one it either doesn’t fit or has a colour scheme that doesn’t fit into my wardrobe. However, I can rarely say no to an item in Black Watch Tartan, and this blazer was no exception. The blazer was on clearance for $60 USD, with an additional 50% off- meaning that this blazer was $30 USD! I went with a size four- the size two was quite fitted and looked nice on but didn’t allow for a lot of mobility in the arms/shoulders. It is a polyester/wool/rayon blend and has a great hand feel. Also, it is machine wash! (I’m routinely going to the dry cleaners in my mid-twenties…) The final touch for me are the buttons- silver with a crest detail, they finish the blazer.

Plaid Mini Skirt, Banana Republic Outlet

Unfortunately this skirt isn’t available on the website anymore, but this is the perfect skirt for me! It hits just right, roughly 10cm above my knee making it completely work-appropriate. The pockets are actual pockets that can fit my whole hand comfortably, and more importantly to this millenial, my Samsung Galaxy. It is the same polyester/wool/rayon blend at the blazer, and easy to clean! I will not be wearing these together (because I’m not 85 years old….) but I love both of these pieces.

I also stopped by the Banana Republic in Alderwood mall quickly, and all of the clearance items there were also 50% off! (Banana Republic really committed to their sales, you can’t deny it.) The small section was not overflowing by the time that I got there but I did find this one gem:

Dillon-Fit Ruffle Cut Flannel Shirt in Green Plaid, Banana Republic

I have always loved the Dillon Fit Shirt but it comes in at a cool $95 CAD, fairly pricey for a button down shirt. However, I was able to snag this for $22 USD! It is soft, comfortable, and looks fantastic dressed up or down. There is also a beautiful ruffle detail on the sleeve that I think really sets it apart from most other shirts. It is easy to see why the Dillon is one of their most popular items! If you can catch a Dillon sale, I would highly recommend grabbing it. You can get cheap button downs from any number of stores but this actually feels and looks the higher quality.

My only word of advice is to be careful with the Banana Republic website. They often sell out of items but still list them on the website when you search for them. It can be frustrating and it often leads to me abandon the website. If at all possible, I would recommend shopping in store rather than online!

What is your favourite store for career wear?

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

Thank you!! I might have an addiction… In the past two weeks I have tried to purchase five different items (there may have been another few, I’ve lost track) and they show them being in stock in my size and when you actually add to your cart, THEN they show as sold out. And BR told me that it was my browser’s fault- the first time it happened, I visited their site for the first time on a new computer. Not impressed!!

I hardly doubt it is your browser’s fault. If so then my browser is faulty too!
