General Life Updates

While I love having a structured blog and defined topics, sometimes I feel that it can obscure the blogger behind it! I love learning more about the bloggers that I follow and hearing about what is happening in their life, what is influencing their posts. These are the things that are occupying my time and my thoughts, the things that are keeping me interested! When the days are getting darker and anything Christmas grabs my attention immediately, it’s impressive that anything is holding my attention. So, what have I been up to as of lately?

-I’ve been making my way through Bolshoi Confidential: Secrets of the Russian Ballet from the Rule of the Tsars to Today from Simon Morrison. My mother and I were lucky enough to go to a book talk and signing with Morrison, and he was absolutely fascinating! As someone who is currently doing their own research in the history of ballet, I could not wait to dive into it. However, I am going quite slowly with it as I am only reading it when I’m feeling totally awake and alert. I’m very much enjoying it, and the review should be coming soon!

-I’m also reading Lyrebird, Cecelia Ahern’s latest novel! I am enjoying it more than her last few works. I loved her earlier works, they always had a small touch of magic, and as of late, Cecelia has been writing more realistic and “everyday” novels. (Good for some, not for me! To quote Amy Poehler.) Not much magic, and I can’t say that I’m really loving any of the characters, but I can’t put it down.

Scrappy Little Nobody from fellow tiny person Anna Kendrick downloaded onto my Kobo today and I can’t wait to start after Lyrebird! The previews were hilarious. If anyone has started, let me know what you think!

-I’ve been doing fairly well with my bullet journaling! There are some days that I don’t use it, but I don’t feel like I need to use it every day. My hand scripts are getting better, and I’m enjoying trying different scripts. I’ve started hiding tiny presents throughout the page satiate my love of Christmas… I might try a dotted notebook in the new year for something different, but I’m loving the running list for the day! I don’t really use any markings other than “done”, migrating is more work than I’m willing to put in at this point…

-I am getting serious about exercise and getting in shape. I am focusing on engaging all of my muscles whenever I exercise- Zumba was a whole new kind of workout when I engaged my abs for 45 minutes straight. As I mentioned in Sunday’s post, I’ve stopped snacking. Or mostly stopped snacking. It’s tough but getting a little bit easier each day! Plain tea with a drop of milk is all I need to get me through.

-I’ve been making my way through numerous cheesy Christmas movies- thank you, W Network! Soon, I will be starting wrapping and finishing up DIY presents. Nothing cheers me up like a Hallmark or Lifetime movie that is more predictable than the sunrise and sunset. I’m pretty proud of myself, I’ve done really well at present-ing on a budget this year- I’ve timed almost every purchase with a sale, or made it myself. Christmas doesn’t have to bankrupt you!!

-I am going to start decorating my workspace in the style of How the Grinch Stole Christmas– post coming next week on how to do this on a budget! Work is on the tough side lately, so our office decorating competition is really helping me (and other coworkers) stay positive. I hope that the bright colours and cheer will spread the positive vibes to everyone who comes by our office!

So dear readers, what’s been going on in your life?

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!

Maybe I should write something like this, but I don’t know if people would read it! My follower base isn’t as big as yours 🙈

I love getting to know all of the bloggers I follow!! And I’ve found that smaller blogs are usually more interesting, they are more honest and not simply posting product reviews. I say you should!! 🙂
