I’m not doing my absolute best at my get-in-shape plan, but I’m also not doing terribly. I’m trying to modify what I’m doing while still maintaining the same level of fitness!
When I do run at the gym, I run for 15 minutes on low resistance, and then 10-15 minutes of stretching immediately following. I am slowly noticing that my glutes aren’t quite as sore when I go work on my turnout. I did a Cardio Jam class, which is essentially Zumba. I enjoyed it for the most part! Because 98% of the cardio I have done for the last two years is low impact, my ankle was incredibly sore. I did leave the class a little early. I continued to check my ankle- it didn’t swell at all, it didn’t hurt to rotate it, and the pain subsided once the impact stopped. I’m going to keep doing that class one lunch a week, and try and find another cardio class to do.
I’m not going to lie, I’ve only done the exercises I set for myself 5 times, maybe. (I detailed it here.) I’ve done the cardio ballet video 3 times! It’s not an excuse, but Banff made it kind of tough to do much more than yoga. The hotel rooms we had didn’t have a lot of open space, and I would have essentially shoved Loki is a corner… However, I did do yoga two out of the three days we were there, and also did two decent hikes. (Posts to come!) Because I wasn’t doing the combo I came up with, I decided that doing an actual barre is the only answer. I am going to do this every day, Saturday to Saturday. So far, my feet are sore but I’m slowly loosening up. The only thing missing is music, but it’s not the end of the world!
My old yoga mat is getting pretty beat up- I’ve been using it 3-5 times a week for two years now. I don’t do anything particularly intense in my practice. However, it’s still just getting worn out. So, while I was in Banff, I treated myself to a new mat from Lululemon! I got The Mat (3mm) in Bali Breeze/Alberta Lake. I love the colour way, and I’m loving the new mat. Yes, the rubber smell is strong when you first unroll it, but it seems to have dissipated quickly.
After seeing the Professional Division dancers from the RWB, it really kicked it into my head that I need to get back into ballet shape! Obviously I am not going to be at that level of fitness, but I still need to do everything I can.
