I don’t know where I have been, but I found out this week that some of my favourite authors have new books coming out. I get for most people that this isn’t a big deal, but I literally couldn’t sit still. What’s coming out??
1. Why Not Me?, Mindy Kaling
Annnnd she is back in the end of September with the followup to the amazing Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? I already have this pre-ordered from Amazon, and I can’t wait for it to land in my hands. While I love Bossypants and Yes, Please! (Tina Fey and Amy Poehler respectively), Mindy Kaling has a slight edge over them for me because of where she is in her life. Stories about motherhood from those two are wonderful and meaty and funny but I can relate to Mindy’s age and place in life a little more. Mindy says all of the things that we are thinking, and it’s refreshing to finally here it! Wait for the review coming in October! Okay, I knew about this book so it’s not news for this week but still exciting.
2. The Marble Collector, Cecelia Ahern
I also knew about this book, but I am equally excited. Cecelia Ahern is certainly my favourite fiction author, and I cannot wait to read this book. It’s not your typical chick-lit- there is a bit more meat to it, the story is more unique and developed. I’m not sure if it’s in this book, but there is often a touch of magic. I have become quite used to taking the weekend in November after it comes out and feverishly reading it. It’s a last respite before the whirlwind of the holidays! Cecelia, I am looking forward to your new creation!
3. Solutions and Other Problems, Allie Brosh
Hyperbole and a Half is a laugh-out-loud kind of funny book. I wasn’t sure when I bought it at first- I had read all of Allie’s blog posts, did I need them in book form? Nope, still hilarious. I was pretty excited when I found out on GoodReads yesterday that this was being released. My only issue? It’s being released on December 29th, 2015- after Christmas? Weird move, publishers. I will be in Washington visiting M at that point, so I probably won’t be reading it until January, realistically.
4. Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things, Jenny Lawson
My second reading surprise? Jenny Lawson is also releasing a second book, and I couldn’t be more excited. Let’s Pretend This Never Happened is also laugh-out-loud funny, and so bizarre that you can’t help but have tears streaming down your face. Hint: she’s the daughter of a taxidermist, so there are plenty o’stuffed animals featured haha! Pre-ordered as well.
What have you been reading lately?
