This is an interesting time for me in regards to Alpha Gam. As I’ve said, there is not really much going on here in regards to alumnae life. I’m having fun with Junior Circle, but I would also like to give back in a structured way.
Although the deadline has passed, I am going to apply for a position on the Volunteer Service Team, and hope a spot opens up! I would absolutely love to be able to be on the Archives Committee, given my degrees in history and interest in our Ritual and traditions.
One thing I have learned? There isn’t much explanation of the VST- I never applied because we were only aware of positions such as Province Director that clearly require experience. There is a lot more to the VST than it first appears. I think having a document to give to graduate members explaining all of the ways to stay involved after graduation (other than the obvious alumnae chapter) could be quite useful.
I will say, I have never been jealous of the “traditional” Greek experience- I feel that being in a small chapter (less than 30 members) with no house was a good fit for me. I stayed focused on school and didn’t have a thousand social events to attend. However, it does make me disappointed to know that there will most likely never be an engaged alumnae chapter here. I joined for reasons that stretch far past my undergrad days, but it seems I am in the minority here.
I am hopeful that something will work out with the VST!
