I recently broke down and finally ordered Butter Baked Goods: Nostalgic Recipes from a Little Neighborhood Bakery. I’ve been looking at it for years, and I just had to. And it does not disappoint. Firstly, it is a beautiful book. The pictures are great, the font isn’t too difficult to read, and the end pages are gorgeous. As soon as I opened it, I immediately started making plans.
Butter (the bakery, not the food) is known for its marshmallows, and this book includes the recipe. I will probably attempt them at some point, but not any time in the near future. What do I want to make?
1. Sticks and Stones Cookies- it’s a chocolate chip cookie type base, with M&Ms and broken pretzel sticks in them. The chocolate/salt mix will be perfect.
2. Big Sugar Cookies- I still want to keep trying new recipes, and this one looks pretty simple.
3. Raspberry Custard Pie- Realistically, I probably won’t make the crust myself, but I will definitely attempt this! Custard is on my to-try list.
4. The Quintessential Butter Tart- I LOVE butter tart bars, so I will mostly likely make my own shortbread base and then use this filling recipe.
One thing I’m not too sure about? The “Butter” size- Rosie acknowledges that the sizes of everything is quite large, so I will attempt to make smaller, more normal versions of everything. I am doing well in my quest to eat healthy, and part of the key is still allowing myself desserts! My only qualifier is that I make it myself, and so I need to make smaller portions. I hopefully will be able to make the Sticks and Stones Cookies later today! Wish me luck!
