Where it all began- UCD and Blackrock

For those of you who don’t know (which I will assume is most readers), M and I met during our MA at University College Dublin. We were both studying medieval Irish history, had friends in common, and one thing led to another! We spent the last day of the trip, being nostalgic and wandering through our old haunts.

He lived in Booterstown, very close to UCD. We used to walk through Booterstown to get to the Blackrock Marks and Spencer, and walk back through Booterstown park (usually with a break for M&S snacks)!

I absolutely love the view you get at the Blackrock stop!! Beachy but still urban, it’s an incredibly calm and beautiful spot. If you have the chance, take the DART down and walk around!

This is the view walking up from the Booterstown station- an old school pub! The Old Punch Bowl has good food, and good pints. I wish we could still drop in!

One of the sad views of the trip for me was Bake My Cake. BMC was a lovely little bakery close to M’s place. When we started dating,  he told me about it because he knew how much I love cupcakes. They did interesting and unique flavours, as well as milkshakes and ice cream! In 2014 they opened up a shop in Dundrum, but to no avail- they couldn’t stay afloat. I found out a week before leaving that they were closing, it’s like a little piece of my Dublin is gone.

After that we headed to UCD, to catch up with our every day spots. When we left UCD, there was construction everywhere. There was a huge amount of construction in the middle of campus because of the lake, which has now been finished. It’s calm and beautiful, and I’ve been told is shaped to help Cygnets learn to fly! Also important, I finally got my shot with the UCD sign!

I wanted nothing more than to go back, and it was wonderful to see everything again!

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
