Fraternity Friday- I am lucky enough to have my very own Pearl Sister!

So, with my Purpose recap finishing up last week, I decided that this week’s Fraternity Friday would be just some Alpha Gam news for me!

I have a Pearl Sister in our Coe College colony!! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, I will explain. In Alpha Gamma Delta, we have Sister-Mothers and Sister-Daughters (like Big/Little). New colonies don’t have Sister-Moms because there are no members to be Sister-Moms. So, lucky alumna members such as myself get to serve as Pearl Sisters for these new members! You email back and forth, share some of your experiences with them, I will be sending mine a present for Initiation. Some people are lucky enough to attend the Installation and Initiation ceremonies with their Pearl Sisters, but Iowa is kind of far for me. I’m a little sad about it, but hopefully the present helps a tad. I love being able to get to know new Alpha Gams, especially those who experience the Fraternity in a different way than I do. It is pretty exciting to talk to someone who is entirely new to it all, it has been a while since I was around New Members! 😉

IRD planning for the chapter here is going well, we should have over 50 people attending! (I know to some Greeks, that seems tiny, but the chapters here are never bigger than 30 women.) I am very much enjoying planning it, and it is getting down to the nitty gritty of it all. My one downfall is centre-pieces and décor- I have no thoughts on these, none at all haha. If nothing else, red and buff roses with pearls! 85th planning for the fall is moving along, as well. That is more heavy duty, with a lot of booking and budgeting, but thankfully I am not the one in charge of that budget. I spend most of my time trying to figure out how to best celebrate the chapter’s long history, not book a DJ. My head doesn’t work on the practical side of events, just the creative. But, I’m not the head of it, so they are spared my disorganisation.

Until tomorrow,
The Historian!
